Happy fall! We're here to help you get to where you're going this season, whether that's the office, back to school, your favorite restaurant, or a weekend getaway.
We’ve been working hard to deliver service that’s faster and more reliable across our subways, buses, and commuter railroads. There are plenty of ways for you to find your best fare, no matter where you're going. And of course, the health and safety of our customers and employees remains a top priority.
Whether you've been riding with us consistently for the past two years or you're getting back to a normal commute now, we're happy to see you — and we're here to help.
Faster, more reliable service
This year, we’ve implemented new schedules on key subway lines that will make weekday trips faster for nearly 900,000 riders.
The redesigned Bronx local bus network is making bus trips in the borough faster, more frequent, more reliable, and better connected to the subway. We’ve also added bus service in all five boroughs to accommodate students returning for the school year, making it easier for kids to get where they need to go.
New Metro-North schedules that went into effect this spring added more than 60 weekday trains on our East of Hudson lines, providing more flexible travel options for customers.
If you're traveling to and from Long Island, you'll soon see major improvements to your commute: Sections of the new third track on the Main Line have already opened as part of the LIRR Main Line Expansion. When completed this fall, the new track between Floral Park and Hicksville will help reduce congestion and delays, improve safety, and create a more reliable rail network.
By the end of this year, we’ll roll out LIRR service to Grand Central, the most transformative expansion of Long Island rail service in a century. More LIRR trains will run during peak hours and there will be better reverse commuting options to Long Island. Customers will arrive to a new, expansive concourse with spacious waiting areas, free Wi-Fi, and real-time departure information.
Find your best fare
Back to commuting regularly? Use OMNY to take advantage of our weekly fare capping program. No need to buy a MetroCard upfront — simply take 12 OMNY trips with the same smartphone, wearable device, or credit or debit card from Monday through Sunday, and you automatically ride free for the rest of the week.
If you’re taking regular trips on Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North, you can save an extra 10% with a monthly ticket. But if you’re not ready for that commitment, try a discounted 20-trip ticket in the TrainTime app. You’ll save 20% on regular peak fare prices, and tickets are good for 60 days.
Some customers may qualify for special fare discounts. Seniors and people with disabilities can apply for a Reduced-Fare MetroCard and get half-priced fares. Eligible New Yorkers with low incomes may qualify for the Fair Fares program, created by the City of New York. This lets you receive a 50% discount on subway and eligible bus fares or Access-A-Ride fares.
Students may also be eligible for a Student MetroCard, which are good for three free rides each school day between 5:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Four-ride passes are available for students who have more than one transfer on their journey to school. The NYC Department of Education issues student MetroCards, and to get one, you should request one from your school.
