Happy Friday! New York City Transit President Rich Davey here, welcoming you to another weekend in our city.
New Yorkers know that the best way to experience everything that makes summer in our city so special is by taking mass transit. I love the MTA Weekender — it’s a must-read for me every Friday — and I wanted to take a minute to thank all of you for reading and for being subway and bus customers!
We’ll get to your weekend service information shortly, but first, some great news for subway customers in Manhattan and the Bronx; starting this weekend (yes, tomorrow!) we are running more frequent service on the and , with trains arriving every 6 minutes on both lines. This is our second weekend service enhancement so far this summer: In July we added service on the , , and lines. And there's more to come! Delivering faster, cleaner, and safer service is the name of the game for us at New York City Transit, and running subways more frequently on the weekend will make a real difference to your experience as riders.
It's no secret that we perform much of the work we do to both maintain our system and deliver upgrades (like new signals and accessibility improvements) on the weekends. This work is essential to the future of the subway, but as ridership continues to come back strongly on weekends, I am committed to improving weekend service across the board.
Thank you again for being a customer of New York City Transit, and I hope you are able to enjoy everything the city has to offer this summer weekend by riding the subway and bus system.
